Artist's Table

Three exciting summer markets the International Folk Art Market, Spanish Market, and Indian Market draw thousands of people to Santa Fe from from all over the country and the world. The Santa Fe School of Cooking is proud to host three exclusive benefit events which we call "At the Artist's Table", each anchored around one of these markets. On each of three evenings, July 6, July 26 and August 16 we will explore the art and cuisine of one of Santa Fe's diverse cultures with a nationally known artist and award winning chef working together to create a unique menu. Each event will be limited to 30 people creating an intimate atmosphere where the participants can enjoy delicious food, wine, and conversation with the other guests, the artists and the chefs. In addition the guests will each receive a original work by the guest artist. The fun begins at 6 pm with appetizers and wine at the Santa Fe School of Cooking, followed by the specially designed meal.

All profits will be donated to Partners in Education Foundation for the Santa Fe Public Schools
and the Santa Fe Arts Commission Artist Exhibit and Education Program

Tickets are $250 per person.

Native American Art & Cuisine - August 16, 2011

Born and raised in the American Southwest, Ramona Sakiestewa is a self-taught weaver evolving and adapting techniques derived from her own cultural past, prehistoric pueblo weaving. Her current portfolio includes tapestry, clay prints, work-on-paper, and architectural design. Her work is in numerous museums and private collections in the United States and internationally.

Want a Presidential meal? This is your chance, Michelle Roetzer has prepared food for two U.S. Presidents: George H. W. Bush, and Bill Clinton, one Mexican President Vicente Fox, and one almost U.S.President: Al Gore. With 26 years of experience as a chef, her knowledge of regional culinary anthropology, and food culture and entertaining presence, she is one of the most popular instructors at the Santa Fe School of Cooking.

These two dynamic ladies will bring the bounty of nature to the table utilizing using seasonal foods found in the Southwest. Several delectable courses, paired with the famous Van Duzer Pinot Noir, showcase the collaborative native artistry of both the artist and chef, and ancient and modern foods of the Americas. It promises to be a memorable evening.

Folk Art & International Cuisine - July 6, 2011

From the creative mind of Geoffrey Gorman comes what he calls transformational sculpture. Influenced by tribal art primarily from Alaska and Africa, Geoffrey Gorman transforms found objects into creatures of curiosity.

The exotic locale of Lamu Island, off the coast of Kenya, with its Swahili fusion of European, Arabic and Indian influences, is at the heart of owner-chef Ahmed Obo's spirited cuisine. From his popular Jambo Cafe Amed Obo's food has taken Santa Fe by storm. Anybody who has eaten there once can't resist going again.

These two creative gentlemen promise to make an evening of exotic food and fascinating conversation the like which you have not experienced before. Don't miss it!

Spanish Art & Cuisine - July 26, 2011

With accolades and awards too numerous to mention Arlene Cisneros Sena's "contributions to the Spanish colonial saint-making tradition of New Mexico is frankly unfathomable,". "Not only is it beautiful, but spiritually uplifting to our faithful. "Arlene is to New Mexico what color is to art."

James Campbell Caruso is a five-time James Beard Award Nominee and one of only four chefs nominated to compete in the Sherry council of America's "Cop Jerez International Food and Sherry Pairing Competition". He is the master of Basque/Spanish cuisine. With the feel of a lively European wine bar his restaurant, La Boca, is a Santa Fe downtown favorite, full to capacity almost every night since opening on 2006.


Their deep understanding of Spanish art, food and culture Arlene and James will create an evening that takes you back to the roots of Colonial Spanish America.
